EVERYTHING ABOUT THE NEW
LEXUS COUPE

2026 Lexus RC and LC
Lexus is gearing up to release a new coupe that’s sure to excite sports car enthusiasts. Based on Toyota's GR GT3 concept, this grand tourer will redefine Lexus’ luxury sports coupe lineup. So, what do we know about this upcoming Lexus coupe?

What Is This Model?
Expected to launch in 2026, the new Lexus coupe will replace the iconic LC model. It’s built on the foundation of the Toyota GR GT3 concept, which was showcased at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Show. According to reports, this high-performance coupe will be a two-door grand tourer with a convertible version also in the works. As the flagship of Lexus’ sports lineup, this model will be designed not only for the road but also for the racetrack.

Why Is It Important?
Toyota has found great success with its GR series, which includes the GR86, GR Supra, and GR Corolla. However, the transformation of the GR GT3 concept into a new Lexus coupe confirms the ongoing appetite for a true sports coupe and the brand’s continued commitment to motorsports. This new coupe will also serve to modernize Lexus' aging RC and LC models. Additionally, it’s expected to replace the RC F GT3 in the FIA World Endurance Championship, bringing Lexus back into the racing scene with a more competitive edge.

Platform and Powertrain
In line with Toyota’s electrification strategy, which emphasizes hybrids over pure EVs, the new coupe is likely to feature a hybrid powertrain that enhances performance while keeping the weight down. The current 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 from the LC might not make a return, but there’s speculation about a hybrid-supported twin-turbo V8 or a V6 option. Lexus could potentially utilize the 3.5-liter hybrid V6 from the LC 500h or the newer 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 found in the Tundra and Sequoia models.

The new coupe is expected to build on an updated version of the rear-wheel-drive GA-L platform currently used in the LC. Increased use of carbon fiber will help reduce weight and offset the extra mass from the hybrid system, making the new model more agile and competitive. Lexus is also expected to offer both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions. And since the street car is being developed alongside the GT3 race car, it will likely benefit from Toyota Gazoo Racing’s expertise in aerodynamics, technology, and engineering.

Price and Release Date
The new Lexus coupe is expected to be priced around $80,000, with an anticipated release in 2026. Moreover, rumors suggest Lexus is also working on an all-electric coupe based on the Electrified Sport concept, which could mean two new Lexus coupes are on the horizon.
